How do I jailbreak iPhone 3G with latest 2.2 version software?

I bought my 3G iPhone without contract from here

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your 3G iPhone to the 2.1-2.2 iPhone firmware using QuickPwn for Windows. Before beginning make sure you have restored to your desired firmware version using iTunes.

Note*: If you are doing this for the 3G unlock and 2.2 is the latest firmware simply click Restore in iTunes before starting.

Step Zero (Optional)

If your iPhone 3G is right out of sealed box and not activated yet, or your iPhone does not show up as supported SIM in the iTunes, and you can't get to the restore software screen in iTunes, you should put your iPhone into DFU mode:

DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is not the same as restore mode. DFU mode bypasses the current OS installed and allows you to upgrade or downgrade your OS. If you are getting errors trying to restore in iTunes, DFU mode is very likely for you.

* Attach the phone to the pc

* Turn the phone off

* Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds

* Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.

Step One

Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop.

Download the following files and place them in the Pwnage folder you just created:

- QuickPwn 2.2

- 2.2.0 (3G): iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw

Extract the QuickPwn22.zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Step Two

Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 2.2 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

Step Three

Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the 2.2 firmware you may launch QuickPwn.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Step Four

Make sure you iPhone is connected to the computer and click the blue arrow to continue.

Step Five

Click the Browse button to locate your iPhone firmware.

Step Six

Select the 2.2 firmware ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop then click the Open button.

Step Seven

QuickPwn will check to make sure the ipsw is valid. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step Eight

You can now select whether to Add Cydia, Add Installer, or Replace Boot Logos. Select the ones you would like to perform then click the clue arrow button

Step Nine

QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm your iPhone is connected via USB before continuing. Click the blue arrow button to proceed.

Step Ten

QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Watch the prompts carefully and follow along.

Step Eleven

Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode it will begin the jailbreak process.

Step Twelve

Once jailbreaking is complete QuickPwn will inform you that it was successfull.

Refurbished iPhone for $149 from Apple Store

I saw this deal on http://www.dealofficer.com/ couple days ago. Apple Store was selling refurbished iPhone (1st generation) for $149 and free shipping. It comes with 1 year apple warranty. Since it's 1st generation iPhone, it can be easily unlocked and jailbroken.

I jumped on the deal and is expecting my iPhone tomorrow. Now I will have both iPhone 3G and iPhone (1st generation). I will post a report on unlock iPhone using quickpwn.

Edge not working on T-Mobile network for unlocked iPhone?

Question: I have 3G iphone v.2.1. It's unlocked to use t-mobile. I was using T-zones or called T-mobileWeb ($5.99). Everything worked well for many days. But all of sudden, EDGE network does not work anymore for me....The 'E' sign doesn't show up anymore from today.. I dont know why.. it just stopped working from last night. thank you!

Answer: This happened to me as well. I figured out a way to enable the 'E' again:
  1. I assume you have followed my previous post about "turn off 3G, turn on Data Roaming, set APN to epc.tmobile.com". And now the 'E' disappeared for no reason. Follow the steps below:
  2. Turn off "Data Roaming" in the General->Network setting
  3. Power off iPhone by holding the power button for 5 seconds, the red slide bar will show up, slide the red button to power off
  4. Power on iPhone
  5. Wait until the T-Mobile sign appear and signal bars are up.
  6. Now go to General->Network setting to turn ON "Data Roaming"
  7. 'E' should appear again.

After step 7, if the 'E' still doesn't show up, add an extra step 1.5 (between step 1 and step 2) "step 1.5, take the SIM card out of iPhone and put it back in again." Then follow step 2 to 7. That should re-enable 'E'

How often can I request an Unlock code from my wireless carrier?

Most GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile) allow you to request one unlock code per line every 90 days (3 months). So if you have 2 phone line with T-Mobile, you can request total of 8 unlock code per year.

Of course, there are some exceptions: AT&T has exclusive contract with Apple iPhone until 2010. So they won't give you unlock code on iPhone.

Also, I've tried to get unlock code for G1 from T-Mobile, which they haven't granted after 3 weeks waiting.
