I bought my 3G iPhone without contract from here
You can find the unlock SIM cards here
When I connect my iPhone (unlocked using GEVEY Turbo SIM card) to the iTunes v8 running on Microsoft Vista Home, I got the error message: "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."
iTunes refuse to sync.
There are three solutions:
- Jailbreak it using the pwn tool. It will void your warranty.
- Take out your non-AT&T sim card and then sync or put an AT&T card
- Turn on Airplane mode to fool iTunes.
- The easily and the best solution: right click the iPhone icon in iTunes and then click sync in the menu. Thanks betocarrascor!
I prefer the 4th solution, which is simple and easy.

im new to the iphone thing. how do i activate an unlocked iphone and sync my contacts?
If your iPhone 3G is new out of box or if you restored the phone's firmware and reset it to its factory settings, you would have to activate the phone using a "REAL" AT&T SIM card. I borrowed my friend's AT&T SIM to do that.
Once it's activated, you will be able to use a TurboSIM together with your T-Mobile (or any other GSM carrier) SIM card to unlock the iPhone.
To sync all the contacts, you would need to use iTunes. I sync my old Nokia phone with Outlook and uploaded all contacts to Outlook. Then, I use iTunes to sync Outlook contacts to my unlocked iPhone 3G. Using the flight mode trick described here.
When I right-click the ipod icon in iTunes, I don't get the sync menu item.
Im running iPhone 3g 2.0.2 and iTunes 8.0
Any ideas phonellama?
I'm running iTunes 8 and iPhone 3G 2.1 with GEVEY TurboSIM.
I get the sync menu no problem. If this doesn't work for you, then you would need to do the "enable flight mode" trick.
Non of this work anymore:
# Jailbreak it using the pwn tool. It will void your warranty.
# Take out your non-AT&T sim card and then sync or put an AT&T card
# Turn on Airplane mode to fool iTunes.
So syncing music is a big question now....
Which version of iPhone software are you running? The latest 2.2? As I stated in my blog, do not upgrade to 2.2 yet. It doesn't work with unlock SIM.
Fantastic, I must say. But your trick stopped working for me.
See, we got two phones. One was bought in the US, uses an US account and fuctions with a TurboSim. The other one was purchased in Venezuela and functions legally. Ever since we started to sync with the one bought in Venezuela, we are unable to sync the other Iphone using the airplane mode trick. Oh and the syncing using the menu item won't work for us either.
Help, please.
Do you have a hack for 2.2.1 yet?
Running turbo sim and can not sync with itunes tried all 4 of your methods
I am running 2.2 version. I did not update to 2.2.1 Still None of the methods work. I am not using a turbo sim . Please help.

I got an iphone 3g which was bought in USA , activated and was out of contract as the user was upgraded to 3gs. The phone is running on version 3.0.1(7A400) and modem firmware 04.26.08.
I had brought the phone to India. Jailbroked it and unlocked it using the excellent tools you have provided. It was minutes job and everything was working fine.
But after 2 weeks I am getting an error whenever I am connecting to itunes "The SIM card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported". So though everything works fine on the phone front I am not able to sync with itunes. Could you please provide a solution or point me to one which is already available?
Thanking you ~
