Which iPhone unlock SIM card should I choose?

I bought my 3G iPhone from here

You can find the unlock SIM cards here

There are no software solution to unlock your iPhone yet. There are many iPhone unlock SIM card you can buy from eBay. Which one should you choose?
I've tested two different unlock SIM, here is what I found out:

Both card tested works with the latest iPhone firmware v2.1.

Both card allow me to get unlimited internet access via the $5.99 T-MobileWeb plan. That's big savings comparing to AT&T's $30 iPhone internet plan.

SIMKJ v10 Turbo SIM

Pro:

  • It works with iPhone's latest firmware v2.1, it can unlock your iPhone.

  • Wifi works great. All your applications works with wifi connection.

  • Edge network works fine. 90% of your applications can get Edge network access. (The 10% is explained in Con)

  • It even fools the iTunes. So you can sync your iPhone with your Computer running iTunes.

Con:

  • The 10% applications that requires secured network access won't be able to work under Edge. The most important ones: App Store won't work over Edge. You have to let it connect via wifi.

  • The SIM card will start to show "No Service" error after 12-48 hours usage. You have to take out the SIM, insert it into a different phone, and then put it back to iPhone to reset it. This is really annoying. I have to borrow another phone everyday to reset my unlock SIM.

GEVEY TurboSIM:

Pro:

  • It works with iPhone's latest firmware v2.1, it can unlock your iPhone.

  • Wifi works great. All your applications works with wifi connection.

  • Edge works perfectly. You will not get "No Service" error as long as there is signal.

  • All your applications (100%) can get Edge network access in the $5.99 TmobileWeb plan (see my previous post for settings). Even the App Store works!
  • It is thinner than the SIMKJ card, and thus a littler bit easier to fit into the iPhone SIM slot.

Con:

  • iTunes running on your computer doesn't like it. You get "SIM card is not supported" error when you connects to iTunes on your PC/Mac. Thanks to betocarrascor 's comment, you can still sync with iPhone by right clicking the iPhone icon in itunes and then clicking sync, you won't be able to see what you're syncing, but you can sync it without having to turn on airplane mode or changing the sim.
  • Since it is thinner than the SIMKJ card, it is also much softer. It is hard to insert it into the iPhone without bend it. I used a small tape to tape it together with the T-Mobile sim. That solves the problem.

Conclusion:

Both card can unlock your iPhone. Unfortunately, SIMKJ has to be "reset" everyday. That's clearly unacceptable. GEVEY-3G works great. The only drawback is the "iTunes sync" problem. You can work around it using a AT&T prepaid SIM.

GEVEY-3G is the winner.

the problem with the syncing can be solved by right clicking the iPhone icon in itunes and then clicking sync, you wont be able to see what you're syncing, but you can sync it without having to turn on airplane mode or changing the sim. Hope it helps yall..

Thanks betocarrascor, I haven't been able to sleep for 48 hours trying to figure how to sync.

I'm still screwed when it comes to adding music since I can't see anything in the Iphone to drop the music (I had activated the manually manage music option) when my Itunes worked (the first week of having the sim card add on).

Has anyone found a workaround this issue?

Have you tried the flight mode hack described in my blog?

Day Dreamer,

This happened to me once, but somehow went away. I don't know how. But even when it's showing partial network name, it was working fine.
