Is iPhone 3G compatible with T-Mobile's 3G network?
The iphone 1.0 is a quad band phone (GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900) and can operate on both ATT’s and T-mobile’s networks
The iPhone 2.0’s has the 3G chip “Infineon-sourced S-GOLD3“.
It’s a tri-band chip operating at 850/1900/2100Mhz.
ATT offers UMTS or 3G using 850mhz(the old TDMA band) and 1900mhz.
While T-mobile offers HSDPA (technically 3.5g part of the UMTS specification) using 1700MHz for uplink and 2100MHz downlink.
Because HSDPA is part of the UMTS spec, it’s backward compatable.HOWEVER you have the limiting factor begin the frequencies the individual carriers use to transmit the data..
Europe and Asia’s G3 runs on 1900/2100mhz
North and south America is suposed to use the (AWS) 3G spec using 1700/2100mhz
ATT didn’t want to wait, like T-mobile is doing, for homeland security to vacate those frequencies and launched on 850/1900mhz instead
The iphone2.0 would have to be 850/1700/1900/2100 3G and 850/1900 GSM (voice)….
Since it’s 850/1900/2100Mhz you can get 3G on ATT and in Europe
So while you can crack iphone 2.0 and use Tmobile’s EDGE, you will never get Tmobile 3G

Nokia 6263: How do I get GMAIL Opera Mini to access internet on T-Mobile 6263? How do I unbrand/application unlock the 6263?

I bought my Nokia 6263 from here
I've got a Nokia 6263 from T-Mobile and have a $5.99 T-MobileWeb WAP internet plan. I've downloaded and installed GMAIL and Opera Mini onto the phone, but when these applications try to access internet, it failed and gives me error message saying I do not have network access. After doing some research on the internet, I've found the solution:The Nokia 6263 phone from T-Mobile comes in a firmware that does not allow any 3rd party application to access internet. To solve this problem, you need to replace the firmware with a different one. Sounds scary? It's actually quite easy and safe to do.
1st step,
Download and install Nokia Software Updater from Nokia's official website: http://www.nokiausa.com/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_189408
2nd step,
Connect your Nokia 6263 phone with your PC via USB cable, make sure you set the Connectivity settings to USB->Nokia mode
3rd step,
Launch Nokia Software Updater, search for updates for your phone, we are are looking for 5.20 firmware update. Unfortunately, you won't find any right now. Because your phone's "Product Code" is set to a T-Mobile code which don't give you 5.20 firmware.
4th step,
We need to change the Product Code of your phone to a different code: 0547824 . This is a valid Nokia product code that will entitle you to a 5.20 firmware update and that firmware will not have the 3rd party internet access restriction installed by T-Mobile
5th step,
Google it and download Nemesis Service Suite to your PC. I downloaded it from brothersoft. This is a software that allow you to change the "Product Code" on your Nokia phone.
6th step,
Run Nemesis Service Suite to change the "Product Code" to 0547824. See the screen shot below:

7th step,
Run Nokia Software Updater and search for updates for your phone. It will show you a 5.20 firmware is available. Download and install it.
That's it, you have successfully upgraded your Nokia 6263's firmware to 5.20 and now all your 3rd party application can access internet now.
How do I sync my unlocked iPhone with iTunes? I got error saying "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."
I bought my 3G iPhone without contract from here
You can find the unlock SIM cards here
When I connect my iPhone (unlocked using GEVEY Turbo SIM card) to the iTunes v8 running on Microsoft Vista Home, I got the error message: "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."
iTunes refuse to sync.
There are three solutions:
- Jailbreak it using the pwn tool. It will void your warranty.
- Take out your non-AT&T sim card and then sync or put an AT&T card
- Turn on Airplane mode to fool iTunes.
- The easily and the best solution: right click the iPhone icon in iTunes and then click sync in the menu. Thanks betocarrascor!
I prefer the 4th solution, which is simple and easy.

Which iPhone unlock SIM card should I choose?
I bought my 3G iPhone from here
You can find the unlock SIM cards here
There are no software solution to unlock your iPhone yet. There are many iPhone unlock SIM card you can buy from eBay. Which one should you choose?
I've tested two different unlock SIM, here is what I found out:
Both card tested works with the latest iPhone firmware v2.1.
Both card allow me to get unlimited internet access via the $5.99 T-MobileWeb plan. That's big savings comparing to AT&T's $30 iPhone internet plan.
SIMKJ v10 Turbo SIM
Pro:
- It works with iPhone's latest firmware v2.1, it can unlock your iPhone.
- Wifi works great. All your applications works with wifi connection.
- Edge network works fine. 90% of your applications can get Edge network access. (The 10% is explained in Con)
- It even fools the iTunes. So you can sync your iPhone with your Computer running iTunes.
Con:
- The 10% applications that requires secured network access won't be able to work under Edge. The most important ones: App Store won't work over Edge. You have to let it connect via wifi.
- The SIM card will start to show "No Service" error after 12-48 hours usage. You have to take out the SIM, insert it into a different phone, and then put it back to iPhone to reset it. This is really annoying. I have to borrow another phone everyday to reset my unlock SIM.
GEVEY TurboSIM:
Pro:
- It works with iPhone's latest firmware v2.1, it can unlock your iPhone.
- Wifi works great. All your applications works with wifi connection.
- Edge works perfectly. You will not get "No Service" error as long as there is signal.
- All your applications (100%) can get Edge network access in the $5.99 TmobileWeb plan (see my previous post for settings). Even the App Store works!
- It is thinner than the SIMKJ card, and thus a littler bit easier to fit into the iPhone SIM slot.
Con:
- iTunes running on your computer doesn't like it. You get "SIM card is not supported" error when you connects to iTunes on your PC/Mac. Thanks to betocarrascor 's comment, you can still sync with iPhone by right clicking the iPhone icon in itunes and then clicking sync, you won't be able to see what you're syncing, but you can sync it without having to turn on airplane mode or changing the sim.
- Since it is thinner than the SIMKJ card, it is also much softer. It is hard to insert it into the iPhone without bend it. I used a small tape to tape it together with the T-Mobile sim. That solves the problem.
Conclusion:
Both card can unlock your iPhone. Unfortunately, SIMKJ has to be "reset" everyday. That's clearly unacceptable. GEVEY-3G works great. The only drawback is the "iTunes sync" problem. You can work around it using a AT&T prepaid SIM.
GEVEY-3G is the winner.

How to repair/replace iPhone 3G screen?

You can find it for around $16. But NEVER, NEVER buy this alone. It’s impossible for you to replace this glass alone.
Glued to the glass are the home button, rubber seal, a plastic frame, and the digitizer.

We HIGHLY recommend you to buy this as one assembled unit. We have only seen it at the http://www.pdaparts.com/ before, but it is currently sold out.
Alternatively, you can buy the glass with digitizer, but without the home button.

It will be quite challenging to pry apart the plastic frame and port the home button from your old screen to the new one. This is available at the following stores for $69.
http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=IP-2213&Category_Code=IPHONE
http://cnn.cn/shop/apple-iphone-digitizer-glass-p-3118.html
Underneath the glass screen and the digitizer is the LCD:

You can usually find this for around $89.
How to tell which Screen part you need for the iPhone 3G
· LCD Only: If the image under the glass is broken and the touch panel is NOT then you only need an LCD.
· Touch Panel aka Digitizer: If the top touch panel or aka glass top is cracked or broken but the image under it is fine then you only need the Touch Panel.
· Complete Screen with Touch Panel and LCD: If the top touch panel is broken and the lcd image is either black liquid or cracked you need a complete screen.
Prior to Ordering Please READ THIS!
This is NOT an easy repair and you are doing this at your own risk! The video direction we have for this repair does not include a couple of steps necessary. Once you get the screen assembly out and remove the LCD you will then need to remove the plastic frame & Home Button. The plastic frame is stuck to the touch panel with a glue/double sided tape. You will need to pry the plastic frame away from the old touch panel. Once you have done this, then the home button can come out and transfer. If you pry the plastic frame from the inside, then you should be able to save the rubber seal that is around the edges and is essential to putting it back together later. Use some double-sided tape to stick the new touch panel to the old plastic frame then re-install the LCD and put it back together.

How can I unlock AT&T iPhone 3G to use with T-Mobile?
I bought my 3G iPhone from here
You can find the unlock SIM cards here
Unlike the first generation iPhone (2G), currently there is no software unlock solution. However, there is a hardware solution. You can buy a very thin unlock SIM card that can be placed on top of your T-Mobile SIM card and insert both into the iPhone 3G. This unlock SIM card will make the iPhone 3G to believe the T-Mobile SIM card is either a Demo card or an AT&T card and thus allow you to use the iPhone 3G with other carriers.Pro:
· No need to modify the firmware, or jailbreak the phone
· Will not void your warranty
· You can sync with iTunes, 99% of the applications works, including YouTube, Google Map, etc.
Con:
· It does make the SIM thicker, which could be a bit harder to eject the SIM tray
· Newer version of iPhone firmware might detect old version of SIM unlock card. So you either have to buy a new SIM unlock card to never upgrade your firmware
· App Store or any application that uses HTTPS will not be access T-Mobile data network unless if you jailbreak the phone and modify some configuration files. Of course, these applications will always work over WiFi networks. So if you need to install any applications from App Store, just do it via WiFi.

The Settings:
To make phone call, you have to
· Set Settings->General->Network->Enable 3G to OFF.
To access to the T-Mobile internet data network with $19.99 monthly plan, you have to:
· Set Settings->General->Network->Enable 3G to OFF.
· Set Settings->General->Network->Data Roaming to ON.
To access the T-Mobile WAP internet data network, (T-MobileWeb $5.99 monthly plan), you have to:
· Set Settings->General->Network->Enable 3G to OFF.
· Set Settings->General->Network->Data Roaming to ON.
· Set Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network->APN to epc.tmobile.com
We would highly recommend the $5.99 monthly plan, which gives you unlimited internet access at the Edge network speed.
